Huawei announces 'lite' version of photo-centered P20 series

MANILA - Huawei has launched a third variant of its photography-centered P20 line that dials down on some specifications, but not on the premium design of its much pricier siblings.
The Chinese electronics giant is unleashing the P20 Lite as rivals Oppo and Vivo are set to unveil their F7 and V9, respectively, with notched displays similar to the iPhone X, but at sub-flagship prices.
Even without the triple lens setup on the P20 Pro, Huawei said the dual cameras on the P20 Lite's back, at 16 and 2 megapixels, can still produce fine details even in low light while the 16-megapixel front facing shooter can map up to 96 points on a person's face to reduce noise on selfies.

Aimed squarely at selfie-lovers, the P20 Lite can add AR effects to the users face, similar to Snapchat and Facebook Messenger. Unlike the 2 apps, however, Huawei allows users to superimpose their selfies on pre-set backgrounds.

The P20 Lite has a smaller 5.84-inch display with a notch on top, slightly smaller than the 6 inches on the P20 Pro. The full view display, which has a 19:9 aspect ratio, appears just as bright and sharp as on the more expensive model.
The glass chassis too does not feel like downgrade. The extremely shiny finish of the blue variant shifts depending on how light touches it. It's a brighter shade of blue compared to the more subdued one on the P20 Pro. The P20 Lite will also come in pink, black and gold.
The P20 Lite's fingerprint sensor is located at the back, unlike the P20 and P20 Pro, which have it both at the front. The Lite is noticably lighter than the 2 other devices that were announced in Paris last month.

The P20 Pro is powered by Huawei's in-house Kirin 659 processor. The company said the 3,000 mAh battery can charge up to 43 percent in 30 minutes.

It has 4 gigabytes of RAM with internal storage of up to 128 gigabytes, at part with the P20 and P20 Pro.
Huawei has not released official pricing for the latest in its P series of devices.
