Measles has become a serious health problem in the Philippines. The Department of Health (DOH) has declared outbreaks in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.

More than 4,300 cases of measles have been reported from Jan. 1 to Feb. 9 this year. At least 70 people have died from the highly contagious illness, and four out of five fatalities were unvaccinated, the DOH said. This shows the importance of vaccines in measles prevention.
