MANILA - Google Philippines officially opened its new office at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig on Thursday as it continues to expand its operations in the country.

A large Google logo bearing the colors and elements of the Philippine flag greets guests at the lobby. It hangs on a wall that depicts the limestone houses of the Ivatans in Batanes.

A large painting of the jeepney, dubbed the country's "King of the Road," is displayed in the reception area.

Inside the work floor, office chairs are interspersed with exercise balls and couches to complement the naturally lit and spacious workstations.

Meeting rooms bear the names and design cues of Filipino signatures such as the vinta and salakot. One of the rooms are named after Whang Od, a renowned tattoo artist from Kalinga.

Google Philippines said it would hire more personnel to help engage businesses in digital marketing and target a bigger market.

Google parent Alphabet on Thursday reported that its profit in the final three months of last year climbed 8 percent to $5.3 billion on growth in mobile search and video-sharing service YouTube.
