MANILA – Motorcycle-hailing platform JoyRide on Thursday described as "fake news" reports saying that Senator Christopher "Bong" Go holds a stake in the company.

The owners of JoyRide are the families of Ralph Nubla Jr and Bea Chua who are "low-key" and "reputable" Filipino businessmen, JoyRide Philippines vice president for Corporate Affairs Noli Eala said.

The public is encouraged to check the records filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), he said.

"I hope you’re not looking for Senator Bong Go…Hindi po siya miyembro ng JoyRide and he has never been part of JoyRide. We would like to officially debunk that particular false or fake news that circulated," Eala said.

"We apologize for Senator Bong Go for him being dragged into this because Senator Go is not part of JoyRide and neither is anybody from the government," he said.

The company has been in existence "for quite some time" under the name We Move Things Philippines Inc. It later transformed into Happy Move delivery service before venturing to motorcycle taxis, Eala said.

Officials of the company are experts in Information Technology, logistics and banking, among others, Eala said.

The technical working group tasked to study the possibility of using 2-wheeled vehicles as motorcycle taxis imposed last December a cap of 10,000 per platform. Angkas protested the cap which trimmed its fleet to 10,000 from 27,000.

JoyRide has a total of 1,493 riders as of Dec. 31, with 5,414 more waiting to be activated. JoyRide is planning to complete its 10,000 fleet by the end of February, Eala said.
