After honoring Filipino restaurants Antonio’s and Gallery by Chele earlier this week with spots on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ 51 to 100 list, the prestigious food awards event announced earlier today the inclusion of a Filipino restaurant in its 50 best list.
Toyo Eatery by Chef Jordy Navarra was chosen the best restaurant in the Philippines and landed 49th in this year’s Asian ranking. The restaurant, famous for its inventive take on Filipino cuisine, was praised for its ability to “capture the terroir of its landscape and elevate traditional recipes with clever plays of flavor and texture.”
This is the third consecutive year that Asia’s 50 Best bestowed Toyo Eatery with a spot. It was 43rd in 2019 and 44th last year. The restaurant is located at The Alley at Karrivin Plaza in Pasong Tamo, Makati City. Opening its doors in 2016, the restaurant has consistently impressed both local and foreign diners with its no nonsense approach to service and its imaginative food. One of its famous dishes is called “Bahay Kubo” which gathers all the vegetables from the eponymous Filipino song in one delicious dish that looks like a potted plant.
Meanwhile, the restaurant that took this year’s #1 spot is The Chairman in Hongkong.
