Since its rediscovery in the late '60s as a place for rest and recreation, the historic Lake Caliraya has become a popular weekend destination among the elite--as evidenced by the grand vacation houses surrounding it.

The lake has also become a favorite of gamefishers, who enjoy catching fresh north-American bass on Lake Caliraya.

The bass fish in the lake are characterized by an olive-green color, marked with a series of dark lines. There are also carp and snakehead murrel swimming freely in the serene lake.

These freshwater fish can be used in a variety of dishes, and when grilled on the shore can make for a great centerpiece in any outdoor picnic.

Created in the 1930s in Laguna, more than a hundred kilometers south of Metro Manila, Lake Caliraya is also a destination for those who crave water-sports but do not want to join the crowds at the country's beaches, as well as those who need a big dose of nature after extended time in the concrete jungle.

Pristine and rich in natural life, Lake Caliraya continues to be a tranquil retreat from the hectic pace of today's lifestyle.

Communities catering nature lovers have sprung up around the lake, such as the Hamptons Caliraya, developed by Megaworld through its subsidiary Global-Estate Resorts, Inc. (GERI).

With lots ranging from 500 square meters to 1,800 square meters, and homes invoking those in New York's well-known summer playground for the rich and famous, The Hamptons Village has its own clubhouse and private marina where residents can dock their own boats.

The community also has nearby, two 18-hole golf courses and a clubhouse, a Marina Club, a shophouse district, and a resort hotel district. There is also an outdoor restaurant by the lake, and a cruising restaurant that will let guests better contemplate the beauty of nature.

Residents and guests of The Hamptons Village will also have access to the community's own commercial district called The Hamptons Strip, inspired by New York's Main Street of East Hampton.

More information about Hamptons Caliraya can be found on the development's Facebook page. Interested parties can also call 0917-5305200 or send an email to thehamptonscaliraya@global-estate.ph.
