There's no pill that can stop aging. Wrinkles and fine lines are bound to appear at some point in your life. However, you can significantly retain your skin's natural glow by being aware of various environmental aggressors that can negatively affect skin health.

These aggressors, as the term suggests, are skin irritants that can be found almost anywhere, particularly in highly industrialized areas like the key cities of the Philippines. While you cannot totally avoid these irritants, you can shield yourself from them.

Here are the most common environmental aggressors you might not be aware can harm your skin:

1. Ultraviolet (UV) rays

As much as our bodies need sunlight for the production of Vitamin D, we also need to limit exposure to avoid damaging the skin. Too much exposure to UV rays can cause sunburns in the short term, and in the long term can lead to early skin aging, dark patches, loss of skin elasticity, and others.

2. Pollution

Vehicle exhaust and factory emissions in cities can lower air quality. Aside from affecting breathing, dirt and dust particles in the air can also irritate the skin.

Once these irritants cling to the skin, they can make it more likely for rashes or acne to appear.

3. Cigarette smoke

Smoking can increase the chances for serious illnesses, but it can also choke skin cells with harmful gases, resulting in skin wrinkling and premature aging.

4. Indoor Heating and Cooling

You may be working in an air-conditioned office, but the controlled environment can also bring adverse effects to your skin. Indoor heating and cooling decreases humidity, which in turn dries your skin.

5. Stress

There are two types of stress--external and internal. Both have negative effects on your skin.

Internal stress happens when you have to deal with issues such emotional issues such as worry or negative emotions, while external stress is caused by pollutants, harsh weather conditions, and unsuitable skin products.

In a study conducted by German researchers Andrea Vierkötter and Jean Krutmann, it was found that skin aggressors disrupt the skin's collagen matrix, decreasing the opportunity for collagen synthesis while increasing damage.

When collagen degrades, our skin will be less elastic, making it prone to wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of premature aging.

It is, thus, recommended to keep skin healthy by using skincare products that guard against pollution and sun damage.

These products can include sunblock, cosmetics, or a lotion formulated specifically to protect fairness such as Vaseline Healthy White Sun + Pollution Protection.

Vaseline Healthy White Sun + Pollution Protection has SPF (sun protection factor) which protects against UVB radiation, which causes sunburn. It also has PFA (protection factor of UVA) which guards against UVA radiation, which causes skin darkening.

It also helps skin repel urban aggressors by promoting a healthy skin barrier through moisturization, which is powered by microdroplets of Vaseline Jelly to help restore fairness from deep within the skin.
