Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos showed up at the House of Representatives on Monday, ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte's second State of the Nation Address, despite fears that she could be jailed if she snubs a House of Representatives inquiry on the alleged misuse of provincial excise tax funds.

Marcos said she went to Congress to show support for Duterte and six provincial employees who were jailed by the House of Representatives good government committee last May 29 for supposedly giving dismissive answers during the House hearing.

"Wala ako sa mood rumampa ngayon... Umaali-aligid lang ako dito. Hindi na ako papasok sa session hall. Susunod lang ako sa kwarto ng mommy ko at chachambahan ko kung baka ma-greet ang ating mga kaibigan, lalong-lalo na si Presidente Duterte. Support lang," she told radio DZMM.

"Medyo nanganganib at baka mapaaga ang pagkulong sa akin," she said.

Asked what she will do if she bumps into one of the congressmen who are pushing for the investigation against her, she said: "Sikat yun e. Siya may-ari ng Congress. Ako, dagang dingding lang."

Marcos, who has been threatened with arrest after she skipped the first 2 hearings of the investigation, said she is still mulling over whether or not to attend the resumption of congressional hearing on Tuesday, July 25.

She said she does not know if she will be jailed during the hearing.

"Pinag-iisipan ko pa, sa awa ng Diyos, nagpa pray over ng matindi. Hindi ko alam kung anong gagawin, kung makukuyog ako ng todo-todo o pagbigyan naman kami na magsalita ng kusa at libre," she said.

She added: "Sabi nga ng abogado, yung iba, prejudged. Ikaw, prejailed, kaya magdahan dahan ka."

Marcos earlier condemned the Ilocos Six's detention as "early politicking" and said the underlying motive behind the inquiry is House Majority Leader Rodolfo Fariñas' desire to dominate local politics.

Fariñas filed House Resolution 882, which asked the committee to look into how P66.4 million from the provincial excise tax funds were used to purchases buses and mini-trucks through cash advances instead of public biddings.

In 2019, Marcos and Fariñas will be constitutionally barred from seeking reelection in their current offices, leaving them to pursue other positions or members of their families to pursue their current positions.

Fariñas' daughter Ria and Marcos’ son Matthew are incumbent provincial board members and rumored to be possible gubernatorial candidates.

Duterte earlier said Marcos helped fund his campaign in the 2016 presidential election, a claim that Marcos has denied.

“Sino sa inyo ang nagsuporta sa akin? Ilan lang? Four, five, six? Wala akong barangay captain, congressman. Wala akong pera. Si Imee pa ang nagbigay, sabi niya inutang daw niya. Imee supported me," the president said.
