MANILA - Out of all the homicide cases under investigation, only 2,000 were drug-related, a spokesperson for the Philippine National Police said Tuesday.

This number includes police officers killed during anti-drug operations, said Senior Superintendent Bong Durana.

He added there is no estimate yet how many were killed by suspected vigilantes.

Although President Rodrigo Duterte said there can be no justice for the families of drug suspects killed in his administration's war on drugs, Durana said the PNP will continue its investigation on the deaths.

"We will be tough on crimes, but at the same time, it’s our commitment to the people and to the Republic of the Philippines and our institution to also uphold human rights and the rule of law," he said.
