MANILA - Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr., on Monday admitted that he had an American passport.

In an interview with ANC's "Headstart," host Karen Davila asked Yasay: "You've never had an American passport?"

"I had an American passport but that has already been returned together with my naturalization certificate," he answered.

Yasay, however, failed to clarify when he returned the passport.

His statement runs counter to his previous claim before the Commission on Appointments that he never held an American passport.

In the hearing, he insisted: "I do not have any information on that passport at all. As far as I know, personal knowledge, I never held any American passport."
