Lawmakers will carry on with their duties if Senator Leila De Lima is arrested over her drug trafficking cases, Senate President Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III assured Sunday.

Speaking to radio DZMM, Pimentel also guaranteed that the Senate electoral reform committee chaired by De Lima will continue to function under its vice chairperson if she gets arrested.

"Nothing to worry about po pagdating sa pag-function ng Senado," Pimentel said.

De Lima's case stems from her alleged involvement with the Bilibid drug trade. De Lima has repeatedly denied the allegations, saying President Duterte was getting back at her for investigating his brutal war on drugs.

Her legal team is preparing to file pleadings in a bid to prevent the issuance of an arrest warrant against her.

Senate leaders will meet with De Lima on Monday to discuss the "burning issue" of her possible arrest, Pimentel said.

A detained senator, he added, will not be allowed to attend Senate sessions and vote on proposed laws.
