MANILA - A police official who joined the operation to arrest ex-Iglesia ni Cristo minister Lowell Menorca admitted Wednesday that he is also a member of the INC.

Speaking to radio DZMM, Supt. Ed Leonardo of Police Station 10 said he was given orders to serve the warrant of arrest against Menorca.

He admitted that non-uniformed personnel served the warrant.

Leonardo said Menorca's wife slapped one of the cops in civilian clothes who was serving the warrant.

"Walang masamang plano sa kanya kundi i-serve yung warrant," he said.

Asked if he is a member of the Iglesia ni Cristo, he said: "Opo. Ako ay tinawag lang para sumunod dito. Member po ako."

He also said he cannot say anything about the leadership squabble inside the Iglesia ni Cristo.

"Alam ko ang naiisip ninyo. Ako ay nandito para i-serve yung warrant," he said.

Menorca has accused the INC of abducting him and detaining him due to his alleged involvement with Antonio Ebanghelista, who authored blog posts attacking the INC.

He said he and his wife, child and house help were held against their will at the INC Central compound.
