President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday reiterated his campaign promise that he will allow the burial of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos at the Libingan ng mga Bayani following reports that former Senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. and the rest of the Marcos family have chosen to bury him on September 18 or one week after the late dictator's birthday, next month.

Duterte said Marcos was qualified to be interred at the heroes' cemetery in Taguig City because he was a former president and soldier, adding that it was up to the Marcos family to choose when the final rites should be held.

Duterte said those against Marcos' burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani can hold protests since the right to peaceful assembly is a constitutional right. He said he would order local officials to give anti-Marcos groups permits to "use the streets" even for a month as long as traffic would not be affected. -- ABS-CBN, Aug. 7, 2016
