WATCH: Dayanara Torres recalls 'ASAP' days
MANILA – Former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres still remembers the years she spent in the Philippines after she won the international pageant in 1993.
Torres went to the Philippines in 1994 to crown the new winner of Miss Universe, which pageant was held in Manila. That year, she stayed in the Philippines and became a movie star.
Apart from receiving acting offers, one of Torres’ biggest breaks came when she became a part of the ABS-CBN variety program “ASAP.” Torres was among the original hosts of the Sunday show along with Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez.
In a recorded interview which was aired on the show, Torres said she agreed to be part of “ASAP” because she wanted to venture into new things when she was younger.
“Then came this television show where apart from hosting and getting to know your stars and whatever they are promoting, you also sing and dance. It’s a perfect combination so I accepted it,” she said.
Twenty years later, Torres said her memories of doing the show are still fresh to her.
“Thank you for giving me the chance to be part of your story. Thank you for giving me that, to be part of the Filipino community, to be part of your hearts. I have so many memories. It was such a great time in the Philippines,” she said.
She then congratulated “ASAP” for its 20th anniversary.
“I miss you dearly. Congratulations ‘ASAP’ on your 20th anniversary. Wishing you more years to come,” she said.
Looking back on Torres’ days on “ASAP,” Kapamilya stars Maja Salvador, Shaina Magdayao and Kim Chiu performed a “Sayawnara throwback,” a dance segment that was started by Torres in 1995.
Together with the Manoeuvres Ignite, Salvador, Magdayao and Chiu danced to “Raggamuffin Gurl” and “Hataw Na” among others.
