Last month, the Department of Science and Technology unveiled the Philippines' first cube satellite dubbed as the "Maya-1" in Japan's Kyushu Institute of Technology or Kyutech.

Maya-1 was assembled by two Filipino scientists, Joven Javier and Adrian Salces, who were sent by the DOST to Kyutech for training.

Joel Marciano, director of the DOST's Advanced Science and Technology Institute told ANC's Future Perfect Tech Shorts that the cube satellite will be used for scientific research.

"There are many applications, we are thinking of environmental sensors, the weather stations that we put in remote areas," Marciano said.

Maya-1 will be flown in June to the International Space Station for launch into orbit.
