A Justin Bieber song, unique twists on classic games, a Korean film, and the elections topped this year’s trending Google searches by Filipinos, which a company spokesperson said shows that in addition to a continuing fascination with pop culture, Filipinos like to be informed on happenings locally and abroad.

Bieber's "Love Yourself" off the album "Purpose" topped Google’s trending searches in the Philippines, followed by Snake reboot slither.io, and runaway sensation Pokemon Go.

Korean horror hit "Train to Busan" came in fourth, followed by the Chainsmokers and Halsey’s "Closer," the Commission on Elections (Comelec), firebrand President Rodrigo Duterte, chart-topper "Secret Love Song" by British girl group Little Mix, the Olympic Games in Rio and DC supervillain flick "Suicide Squad."

When it came to news, aside from the 2016 polls, Filipinos were curious about international happenings such as the British exit from the European Union, the death of gorilla Harambe at the Cincinnati Zoo in the US, and the Supermoon. They also wanted to be updated on the latest happenings regarding the Davao bombing.

Interestingly, the Orlando shooting also ranked among the top 10, as well as the Panama Papers, showing that Filipinos became concerned over issues that may have felt quite personal to them—the slaughter of members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the US; as well as a massive leak of personal information, which involved the finances of well-known personalities.

Aside from Duterte, among the most-searched male personalities by Filipinos were Donald Trump, and screen idols Song Joong Ki, Gong Yoo, and Tom Hiddleston.

Top-ranked searches for female personalities included Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, and personalities Maine Mendoza, Margot Robbie, Arci Munoz, and Hailee Steinfeld.

Manny Pacquiao’s senatorial win would have been no surprise considering his bouts with Vargas and Bradley were among the top event searches by Pinoys in 2016, as well as the Olympics, the local and US polls, and the Star Magic Ball.

The Visayas, meanwhile, may see a spike in the influx of tourists in months to come if visitors can be predicted by searches on Google—the Kalanggaman Island in Leyte topped the list of searches for local vacation destinations, followed by Cebu City, Boracay Island, and Iloilo. The Camotes Islands were also in the top searches, as was Bantayan Island, all in the Visayas.

A few other Google search chart-toppers included the phrases "What does 'pak ganern' mean," "What are hugot lines" and "What is Federalism."

Showing the Philippines' love for social media, along with "adulting" topics such as how to access bank accounts online and set an appointment with the Foreign Affairs department, Filipinos wanted to know how they could play basketball in Facebook Messenger, as well as how to use Snapchat.
