MANILA, Philippines – A cut on his left arm was not about to stop Thirdy Ravena from doing all that he can to power Ateneo de Manila University to the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball championship.

Blood stained Ravena's white jersey and forced him to be subbed out with just two minutes left to play in their do-or-die Game 3 against De La Salle University, but after getting his arm bandaged, Ravena came right back in the game and proceeded to anchor the biggest play of the contest.

With Ateneo's lead down to two points, 82-80, and still 48.9 seconds to go, Ravena ran a routine play with Isaac Go that left the big man wide open for a triple. Go reliably knocked down the clutch three-pointer, giving the Blue Eagles an 85-80 cushion that proved enough to withstand the Green Archers' last-ditch rally.

The Blue Eagles held on for an 88-86 victory over the Green Archers, giving them the UAAP Season 80 title – their first since 2012.

Ravena, who averaged solid all-around numbers of 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, earned Finals MVP honors for his efforts.

"It's just a surreal feeling," said Ravena, who also earned Mythical Team honors for the second straight season. "Seeing the community support us through the season, it's just a great feeling."

"I know I'm tired, but seeing them cheering us every single possession, every single minute of the game, it doesn't matter how tired I am," he added.

Ravena finished with a team-high 17 points in the do-or-die Game 3, making seven of his 14 shots. He also added eight rebounds, one of which was an offensive board that led to a wide-open three-pointer for Matt Nieto with just 7:12 to play in the game.

That triple sparked a 14-2 Ateneo run in the fourth quarter, which gave them an 80-70 lead with four minutes left to play.

Ravena added five assists and three steals to his stat line, and was a team-high plus-15 in the game.

Even as he received the Finals MVP, however, Ravena shared the spotlight with his teammates. Indeed, he called on his Ateneo center Chibueze Ikeh to share his moment.

"There are things na hindi nakikita ng mga tao talaga," Ravena explained. "I saw Ikeh the whole game, and he did his job."
