Adamson stuns NU to seize solo lead in UAAP juniors

MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University pulled off a huge upset in the UAAP Season 79 juniors tournament when the Baby Falcons brought down the defending champion National University (NU) Bullpups, 80-67, on Saturday at the Arena in San Juan.

Newcomer Florencio Serrano had 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Gerry Abadiano added 13 points as the Baby Falcons banked on a huge fourth-quarter effort to extend their perfect start to three games.

Adamson now holds the solo lead in the tournament with its 3-0 record.

Winderlich Coyoca and John Lloyd Clemente each had 16 points for the Bullpups.

Far Eastern University (FEU)-Diliman handed Ateneo de Manila University its second straight loss, 77-73, while University of the Philippines (UP) Integrated School crushed University of the East, 95-63, to force a three-way tie for second place along with NU, as all three teams now tote identical 2-1 slates.

Kenji Roman had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Baby Tamaraws, who spoiled Dave Ildefonso's 22-point, seven-rebound, six-steal game for the Blue Eaglets.

Juan Gomez De Liaño had 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Rafael Labao nearly tallied a triple-double as he finished with 14 points, 10 steals, and nine rebounds for the Junior Maroons.

De La Salle-Zobel, meanwhile, tallied its first victory in the post-Aljun Melecio era with a 64-58 win over University of Santo Tomas.

The rebuilding Junior Archers are tied with the Blue Eaglets and the Junior Warriors at 1-2, while the Tiger Cubs remain winless at 0-3.
