For those wondering about Meralco's final play in Game 4 where Chris Newsome missed the game-tying shot to allow Ginebra to walk away with an 88-86 win, the ball was originally intended to go to Allen Durham.

Until it did not.

Head coach Norman Black went through the sequence that led to Newsome, who just won Rookie of the Year earlier in the night, taking Meralco's last shot.

"We got what we wanted, but Newsome didn't pass the ball," Black told the press after the game.

With seven seconds to go, the Gin Kings switched on defense and found import Justin Brownlee guarding Newsome. It was all according to Meralco's plan but the former Ateneo Blue Eagle failed to find Allen Durham.

It might have something to do with what happened a couple of plays earlier.

"We got the matchup we wanted when Brownlee switched to Newsome, but he made a turnover a couple of plays earlier trying to pass the ball to AD. Maybe he felt a little bit hesitant to pass the ball again, that's why he was left a forced shot in the end," Black said.

Black was referring to the play with under a minute left where Meralco committed a turnover after Ginebra rookie Scottie Thompson read Newsome's pass to Durham. The play came immediately after Thompson himself committed a turnover against the Gin Kings on the other end.

The game was tied at 86 at the time.

With the series now tied at 2-2, do know that Meralco's intended final play was for Durham to take the last shot. Newsome ended up missing however, take what you will.

Game 5 is set for Sunday at the Big Dome.
