MANILA, Philippines – It was a bittersweet PBA debut for new GlobalPort import Mike Glover, who had an impressive game but failed to lead the Batang Pier to victory over the Star Hotshots last Sunday in their PBA Governors Cup game.

Glover, tapped to replace Dominique Sutton who is now chasing his NBA dreams, finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in his debut, but the Batang Pier lost in heartbreaking fashion, 102-105, to Star in overtime.

The 28-year-old Glover, who played collegiate ball at Iowa State, described his debut as "bittersweet."

"I got a taste of what Philippine basketball is all about," said Glover, who found himself often matched up against Marc Pingris. "It's more physical, but they let you play."

Glover believes his performance against Star was fine, considering he was "fresh off the plane for 17 hours," but is not at all happy with the result.

"To come up with the loss, it's pretty disappointing the way the game went," he admitted. "We just have to get ready for next Sunday and get on the winning streaks."

He is still working on getting his rhythm and developing his chemistry with his teammates, but Glover has already earned praise from Terrence Romeo, who lauded their new import for his efforts on both ends of the floor.

"Marami siyang ginagawa sa loobg ng court," said Romeo, who also had 27 points in the game. "Dumedepensa siya. 'Pag pinasahan mo sa poste, alam niya 'yung gagawin niya. Sobrang beterano na import, so malaking tulong."

"Alam niya kaming hanapin. Alam niyang hanapin 'yung mga guards," he added.

The loss to Star put GlobalPort's record at 0-3, but Glover said there is no need to panic.

"(We have to) keep pushing each other in practice," he said. "It all comes down in the game, who's mentally prepared, and who's physically ready in the game."
