MANILA -- Cyrus Baguio is a welcome addition to the Phoenix roster, especially since JC Intal will be out for a few months due to injury.

The Fuel Masters landed a deal with the Alaska Aces, giving up two future second round picks to secure the 6-foot-2 wingman.

“Cyrus is a veteran and will fit our style of play,” Phoenix head coach Ariel Vanguardia told the PBA website. “He also gives us a proven scorer with JC out until September.”

Intal is out due to bone spurs in his ankle and Phoenix is looking for someone to take his post while he recovers.

Enter Baguio, an experienced player who has seen action with Red Bull and Alaska. The Fuel Masters had to give up two second round picks — one in 2017 and the other in 2018 — just to get “Skyrus.”

Vanguardia believes Baguio will be coming in very motivated, especially since he had been playing limited minutes in Alaska.

“He has something to prove kasi his minutes are depleting na rin with Alaska. Here, he’s got a new beginning,” said the coach.

“He’s a proven winner and a veteran,” added Vanguardia. “He gives us additional options especially in the end game, we can go to him.”

“Hindi na kami mamomroblema who would we go to in the end game.”

In a surprising move, Alaska let go of Baguio just days before the start of the PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Aces decision to secure a pair of second round picks is seen as an effort to rebuild in the part of Alaska.
