ILOCOS SUR – Good news for Ilokano football fans as they will have a chance to watch a live game of their idols.

The Philippine Azkals announced on their website that their next game against Australia's Perth Glory will be held in Ilocos Sur. This will be the national team’s first game in Northern Luzon and outside of Manila and Visayas.

Although the date is not yet final, the game will likely be held any time between July 25 and 27.

The provincial government is now preparing the Quirino Stadium, located in the town of Bantay, for the football match.

Representatives of Perth Glory have already conducted an initial inspection of the venue. Another inspection is set this week by representatives of the Philippine Azkals.

“From the last ocular inspection ng Quirino Stadium, OK naman ang lahat. Ayon sa grupo ng Perth Glory pasado naman ang venue dahil up to international standard ang ating stadium,” Ilocos Sur Governor Ryan Luis Singson said.

A football clinic will also be conducted by both teams a day after the game, according to Provincial Sports Coordinator Marius Cabudol.

“Gusto talaga nila na ma-inspire din ang mga kabataan dito sa Ilocos Sur na pag-aralan at mahalin ang football” Cabudol said.

They are also anticipating an influx of tourists to the province because of the game.

“The game will most likely help boost our tourism industry as well as additional income for other sectors. That is why we need to have an effective security plan,” Singson said.

Admission will be free but tickets will be distributed by the Provincial Capitol for monitoring purposes.

After the Vigan game, Azkals will be playing a friendly against Kyrgyzstan in August.
