MANILA, Philippines – Kathy Bersola, the former team captain of the University of the Philippines' (UP) women's volleyball team, achieved one of her goals by graduating summa cum laude.

A Sport Science major, Bersola is one of 36 students to graduate summa cum laude from UP Diliman in 2017.

Bersola was the UAAP's Best Blocker in Season 76, and helped the UP Lady Maroons make it to the Final 4 in Season 78.

Bersola memorably suffered a brutal knee injury in Season 77, when she tore her ACL. She told ABS-CBN News in March 2016 that her Sports Psychology lessons were of great help to her while recovering from injury.

She played out her last season in Season 79, but UP missed out on the Final 4. Bersola has since suited up for the Perlas Spikers in the Premier Volleyball League.

UP Diliman's commencement ceremony is set on June 25.
