Australian boxer Jeff Horn and his trainer, Glenn Rushton, understand that they are the underdogs in the upcoming WBO welterweight bout against Manny Pacquiao, but this has not fazed them in the least.

In a recent interview with the New Zealand Herald, Horn and Rushton revealed that they have been deeply studying Pacquiao's previous fights in an attempt to figure out how to defeat the "Pacman" in their July 2 showdown at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.

"Every time he throws a punch, it gives me an opportunity," Horn said. "Every time he attacks, there's the chance for me to punch through the opening."

The one fight that Horn is studying intently is Pacquiao's epic December 2012 showdown against Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez, which saw "Dinamita" land a picture-perfect counter right hand on the Filipino star.

The vicious punch knocked Pacquiao out cold and sent him face down on the canvas for several frightening minutes.

"Marquez stopped Pacquiao with a big shot, and I've got a very good right hand," said Horn. "But I'm not just planning my strategy around landing one good right hand."

The Australian is also studying Pacquiao's November 2016 bout against Jessie Vargas, which the Filipino won convincingly to regain the WBO welterweight strap. Horn is confident that he can put up a much better performance than Vargas did.

"I'll move a lot more than Vargas and give Pacquiao different angles, the same way he did against Vargas. I'm hoping to catch him off balance every time he lunges in," Horn said.

His trainer Rushton said that they have already come up with a game plan, which includes not just "winging right hands" but also changing angles and the rhythm of the fight.

"Jeff is the right fighter to carry out the plan, and to adapt, no matter what," said Rushton. "To me, Jeff is a younger, bigger, fresher, stronger version of Pacquiao – he will be hunting Pacquiao in every round."

"Jeff can change the angles, change the tempo and rhythm of a fight. He breaks up the rhythm of his opponent. Pacquiao has been knocked out, and Jeff is a very heavy puncher. I think Pacquiao will really get a shock," he added.

Though he did not go as far as to predict a win for his fighter, Rushton did guarantee that the upcoming Pacquiao-Horn encounter will be "a thrilling fight."

"They are both aggressive fighters who come forward," said Rushton. "They are both busy, with high work rates, and both are unpredictable."
