MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATED) Following months of rumors, GlobalPort Batang Pier has finally pulled the trigger on a trade for its star guard, Terrence Romeo.

The PBA on Tuesday announced that GlobalPort has sent Romeo, together with center Yousef Taha, to TNT KaTropa.

In exchange, the KaTropa sent former No. 1 draft pick Moala Tautuaa, as well as a first round pick in the 2020 draft and a second round pick in the 2021 draft to the Batang Pier.

The trade reunites Romeo with his collegiate head coach, Nash Racela. TNT now has a truly formidable backcourt as Romeo is expected to create a great 1-2 punch with Jayson Castro.

GlobalPort selected Romeo with the fifth pick in the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft, after foregoing his final season of eligibility with Far Eastern University in the UAAP.

He immediately established himself as a rising star with GlobalPort, and showed the same explosive scoring ability that helped him win MVP honors in the UAAP. He went on to lead the league in scoring in only his second season in the PBA.

Romeorepeated as scoring champion in the 2016 and 2017 seasons and also earned a Mythical First Team citation in 2016, the same year that he helped the Batang Pier make its first ever semifinals appearance in the PBA.

But injuries prevented Romeo from making much of an impact in the 2017-18 PBA Philippine Cup. He played in only two games in the All-Filipino conference and was clearly far from peak physical shape. His most notable on-court moment came when he and GlobalPort coach Pido Jarencio had a shouting match during their quarterfinal game against Magnolia.

Taha, for his part, will be playing for his sixth team since joining the league in 2012.

Tautuaa, the top pick in the 2015 PBA Rookie Draft, will get a chance to start over in GlobalPort after a couple of underwhelming seasons with the TNT franchise.
