MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines (UP) libero Pia Gaiser announced on Monday that her UAAP volleyball career has come to a premature end after suffering a knee injury in their game against National University (NU) on Sunday.

The non-contact injury came early in the opening set, when Gaiser's left knee buckled. She had to be stretchered out of the playing court and was checked by Dr. Raul Canlas inside the dugout. Gaiser went back out on a wheelchair and watched as UP failed to complete a comeback with NU winning in five sets.

On her Twitter account, Gaiser confirmed a report that she had suffered an ACL injury and will thus be out for the rest of the UAAP Season 79 women's volleyball tournament.

On Instagram, Gaiser said it hurts that her career ended "without meeting my expectations as a player."

"My career comprises of approximately 13 injuries, multiple heartaches, unending battle scars, unexplainable feelings, picture perfect memories... 13 years of ball is life and it still drives me crazy!" she said.

"No regrets even with this surprising end! Now it's time to close this door and open a new one," she added.

Gaiser was one of three returning "super" seniors in UP's line-up, along with batch mates Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon. Her injury is a blow to a team that is aiming for at least a return to the Final 4 in Season 79.

The Lady Maroons ended the first round with a 4-3 win-loss record.
