NCAA: San Sebastian volleybelles cruise to 3rd straight win

San Sebastian College boosted its Final 4 bid with its third straight win after sweeping Letran. Josh Albelda, ABS-CBN Sports

MANILA, Philippines – Joyce Sta. Rita came up with another solid effort to power San Sebastian College to a comfortable victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the NCAA Season 93 women's volleyball tournament on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Stags cruised to a 25-9, 25-22, 25-18 victory, their third consecutive win and fourth overall.

With the win, San Sebastian boosted its bid for a Final 4 spot, jumping to a share of third place along with idle University of Perpetual Help.

After scoring a career-high 28 points in a four-set win over Mapua University on Tuesday, Sta. Rita dropped 18 points this time around on 10 kills, five blocks, and three aces.

"She's willing to learn. That's the reason she keeps improving," San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb said of Sta. Rita.

The Lady Knights fell to 2-4.

In an earlier game, Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) claimed its first win of the season after outlasting Mapua, 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-12.

Ladeisheen Magbanua paced her team with 17 points while Aira Binondo, May Lumbo and Yvette Tongco added 16, 15 and 13, respectively, to seal the Lady Generals’ first triumph against five wins.

The Lady Cardinals skidded to 0-6.
