Filipino-American mixed martial arts (MMA) star Brandon Vera has had a taste of show business after joining several stars in Erik Matti’s action film “Buy Bust.”

Although he said there were a lot of scenes that required him fighting, Vera said the whole experience of shooting a movie is very much different from what he does as an MMA fighter.

“Movies and pag-aartista? I love it!” said Vera at the sidelines of the kick-off presser for ONE: Global Superheroes. “I'm enjoying it talaga. Pero akala ko, kayang mag-sabay ang pag-artista and then to fight. Hinde (pala pwede).”

Vera said acting for a movie can be very demanding and tiring.

“’Yung oras mo sa set can be anywhere from 4 hours if short day, to 26 or 28 hours, depende sa location and what we need to get done,” said the current ONE heavyweight champion.

“So, after that 12-hour day, 16-hour day, hindi ako nagtetrain. Matutulog muna. Pag-gising ko, pagod, kakain. Mag-iisip akong magtraining, pero pupunta na naman sa set.”

Despite the challenging schedule on the set, Vera said he is trying to find ways to juggle his time as an actor and a fighter.

These things aren’t unheard of in MMA. In Hollywood, MMA fighters like Rampage Jackson and Ronda Rousey have tried their luck in show business while actively participating in professional MMA.

“I'm finding my balance. Rookie pa lang ko this year, so I'm trying to find out what's going on,” said Vera.

He also wants to gauge fans’ reaction when they see him on the big screen.

“Tignan natin kung kaya kong maging artista rito. Kung magustuhan ng masa ng mga tao sa Pilipinas… if I could act, hindi ko pa alam,” he said.

“Hindi ko pa nakita ‘yung buong film. But acting and the entertainment side, I absolutely love it.”

"Buy Bust" also includes Pinoy actors and actresses like Anne Curtis, Joross Gamboa, Mara Lopez, Nonie Buencamino, AJ Muhlach and Victor Neri.
