MANILA, Philippines – The San Beda College Lady Red Spikers preserved their spotless record in the NCAA Season 93 women's volleyball tournament – but just barely.

San Beda squandered a 2-1 lead before regaining its form in the fifth set to claim a 17-25, 25-15, 25-16, 27-29, 15-12 victory over Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Five players scored in double-digits for the Lady Red Spikers, with skipper Cesca Racraquin again leading the way with 17 points, 13 excellent digs, and nine receptions.

Nieza Viray and Sattriani Espiritu had 14 and 12 points, respectively, as San Beda offset an 11-7 disparity in kill blocks by tallying more attacks, 51-42, and service aces, 12-6.

The Lady Red Spikers improved to 5-0, joining defending champion Arellano University Lady Chiefs at the No. 1 spot.

The Lady Knights, meanwhile, dropped to 2-3.

In the first women's game of the day, Ranya Musa and Rachel Anne Austero teamed up to lead De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) past a gritty Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) squad, 25-17, 18-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7.

Austero fired 17 points, and Musa added 15 markers. Both players came up with the clutch hits in the fourth and fifth set to help the Lady Blazers snap a two-game slide and avoid a massive upset at the hands of the Lady Generals.

CSB gifted EAC with 48 free points off their errors.

"We really need to lessen our mistakes if we want to have a chance in this tournament," said CSB coach Arnold Laniog.

The Lady Generals have now lost five consecutive games.

In the men's division, CSB clawed back from a two-set deficit to turn back EAC, 19-25, 20-25, 25-7, 25-14, 15-11, to improve to 4-1.

The Generals fell to 2-3.
