CEBU CITY — Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday said her lawyers were confident of winning her impeachment trial.

“Ako naman I am most confident with the lawyers working on my impeachment case,” said Duterte, who was in Cebu to visit some relatives in Danao City.

Meanwhile, she also responded to comments from lawmakers that her endorsement of some Senate candidates was a “political move" meant to influence the impeachment trial when a new Congress opens after the midterm elections.

“[Ang] nag-trigger ng paglabas ko ay ang ginawa nila kay Pangulong Duterte at ang ginawa nila na injustice,” she said.

She added that it was her father former President Rodrigo Duterte who asked her to campaign for 10 Senate candidates on his behalf.

These include lawyers Jimmy Bondoc, Jayvee Hinlo, Raul Lambino, Dante Marcoleta and Vic Rodriguez; incumbent senators Bato Dela Rosa and Bong Go; actor Philip Salvador; Dr. Marites Mata, and Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.

Vice President Duterte is also endorsing Congresswoman Camille Villar and reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos. She said she was not able to ask her father's permission before endorsing the two.

“Kaibigan ko sina Senator Imee Marcos and (Senator) Camille Villar. Kulang naman kasi ng dalawang kandidato ang sampo,” she explained.

The Vice President said that she would not join campaign rallies for the senatorial candidates.

“Ang ginagawa ko unang-una nagpapasalamat sa mga tao dahil ang dami daming nagpakita ng supporta,” she said.

“Hindi din naman magkasama yung #Duter10 at yung dalawa,” she further said.

She urged the PDP to come up with a rally that would include all 12 candidates.

“Maalala niyo ang 2022 platform ay unity at continuity pero sa nakikita niyo ngayon walang continuity. Itong mga senators ngayon nagsabi sila na naintidihan nila kung ano ang vision,” said the Vice President.

She noted that her schedule did not align with PDP’s initial events.

In her absence, she sent a video message that PDP candidates can play on her behalf.

EX-PRESIDENT DUTERTE

Meanwhile, the Vice President reiterated that her father's arrest was an “extraordinary rendition in the International Criminal Court”.

The 80-year old Duterte patriarch is detained in the ICC facility in The Hague, The Netherlands for crimes against humanity following his arrest on March 11.

Vice President Duterte said her younger sister Veronica has left The Hague to attend school, while the ex-president's partner Honeylet and his son Davao First District Rep. Paolo Duterte were still there.

“Maiwan doon ngayon ay si Congressman Pulong Duterte hanggang bago sa araw ng eleksyon. Dahil kailangan din niyang umuwi. Dahil kailangan niyang bumoto sa Davao City," she said.
