MANILA – The University of the Philippines on Tuesday released the results of this year's admission examinations, with the majority of passers coming from public schools.

UP President Angelo Jimenez said public school students accounted for 55 percent of 17,996 qualifiers in UPCAT 2025.

A total of 135,236 took UPCAT 2025.

This year’s passing rate was 6.74 percent higher than last year.

Jimenez added that the passing rate of non-science public schools also rose to 31 percent from last year’s 29.8 percent.

He said this year’s results showed a significant difference based on socio-economic factors.

“We doubled the number of first-generation college students from 6.6 percent last year to 13 percent this year,” Jimenez said, adding this gives passers a “stronger fighting chance” to uplift their families from poverty.

About 21.5 percent of qualifiers come from families with an annual income of P200,000 or below.

“Our mission is to ensure that every deserving Filipino student, regardless of socioeconomic background or circumstance, should have access to quality UP education,” Jimenez said.

UPCAT 2025 application results can be viewed using the email address that examinees used in their applications.

UP reminded applicants to regularly check official university channels for instructions on admission and appeal processes.
