MANILA - House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Wednesday demanded the resignation of Land Transportation Office Edgar Galvante for failing to resolve a backlog on vehicle license plates.

"I have nothing personal against Asec. Galvante, trabaho lang. More than 1 year ka na nakaupo diyan at wala pa ring plaka yung mga sasakyan," Alvarez said during a press conference.

"The most logical thing for you to do is to resign. Ibig sabihin hindi mo kaya yung trabaho."

LTO's issuance of car plates bogged down after the Commission on Audit issued a notice of disallowance to the agency due to alleged anomalies in its 5-year contract with suppliers.

"Di naman mabigat na problema yung plaka, daming supplier ng plaka. Basta bidding mo lang 'yan eh di tapos," said Alvarez, who is a former transportation secretary.

Galvante's resignation will leave President Rodrigo Duterte free to tap a replacement who "can get the job done," he added. -- With reports from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
