MANILA- Was Senator Gringo Honasan really offered the job of Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) chief?

Honasan, whose term in the Senate will expire in 2019, dismissed the report as a mere "rumor," stressing his intent to finish his work as a senator.

“That’s a rumor. I have a term to serve and finish, I'll cross the bridge when I get to it but it would be difficult for somebody with my track record to refuse if the country needs me in whatever capacity,” Honasan told reporters on Wednesday.

The senator, however, refused to confirm or deny if an offer was really made by the President.

He said he “cannot answer” the question on whether he will be accepting the offer after his 2019 stint.

The DICT is currently being led by Undersecretary Eliseo Rio Jr. as officer-in-charge following the resignation of Rodolfo Salalima as DICT chief last September.
