Despite their differences, Vice President Leni Robredo never complained about President Rodrigo Duterte, a member of her staff revealed Tuesday.

"No, never. She’s been very professional in how she’s dealt with the President," her chief of staff, Philip Boyet Dy, told ANC's Headstart.

Robredo earlier revealed that she resigned as housing secretary after being told by Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. to desist from attending Cabinet meetings. She pointed out she cannot continue her work without the help of other agencies.

In the ANC interview, Dy said Robredo's response showed her sense of surrender and trust that "whatever happens, that’s what will happen and we just have to make sure we do our best."

He pointed out that something shifted in Robredo when her husband, former Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, died in 2012.

"I think when Secretary Jesse died, for the Vice President, that really meant for her to have a deeper sense of trust and surrender to what will happen, to the Lord, to a higher power," he said.

"I think it’s that depth of surrender that really gives her the silent kind of courage and this silent kind of consistency to soldier on despite whatever temporary setbacks you get in this life especially in such a tumultuous career in public service," he added.

Dy, who had previously worked with the late Secretary, added that one of the things the Vice President would often say is to simply trust that the truth will prevail.

He added it is with this same "equanimity" that allowed Robredo to face the media late Monday afternoon, a day after she announced her resignation from her post in the Duterte cabinet as Housing Secretary.

"For her, what is within her control is the excellence by which we do what we’ve been asked to do and to always side on the right," he said.

Hitting back at critics who say Robredo is doing too many magazine pictorials and not enough real work as Secretary, Dy said they would rather highlight what she had actually accomplished.

"The only way to respond to that is show them the proof, show them the fact that she’s really hardworking and we did release to the media yesterday her accomplishments," he said.

Dy said work continues for Robredo even sans her official portfolio as housing chief.

"She’s in [sic] Compostela Valley and Surigao. She’s visiting one of our partner sites for the Angat-Buhay program that we launched in October 10, the flagship anti-poverty program of the Vice President," he said.

"She’s scheduled to even have a dialogue with some of the victims of Typhoon Pablo, so continue lang yung trabaho," he added.
