MANILA - The head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday raised the idea of joining vigilantes, upon his retirement, to hunt down erring policemen.

"I promise, that's a promise: hindi ko kayo aatrasan, mga scalawag kayo. Kahit na ako'y retired na, baka d'yan pa kayo makakita ng 4-star general, retired 4-star general na magli-lead ng vigilante against sa mga loko-lokong pulis," PNP chief Director General Bato Dela Rosa said during a flag ceremony at Camp Crame.

"Baka magvi-vigilante pa ako against sa mga g*gong
pulis. I will never stop up to my last breath."

(I promise, that's a promise: I will not back down against scalawags. Event after I retire, that may be when you'd see a 4-star general, retired 4-star general leading vigilantes against rogue cops. I may become a vigilante against scalawag policemen. I will never stop until my last breath.)

PNP was recently pulled out of President Rodrigo Duterte's anti-narcotics drive amid allegations of abuse. But they may soon be back in the campaign.

Earlier this year, the organization also came under fire due to the kidnapping and death of a South Korean businessman inside the PNP headquarters, and the killing of teenagers Kian Delos Santos and Karl Angelo Arnaiz during police operations.

Dela Rosa, who retires by year end, has revealed that one-third of the 150,000-strong PNP are "scalawags."
