Senator Leila de Lima on Wednesday branded as lies the accusations of suspected drug lord Kerwin Espinosa that she received drug money from him, saying she hopes God would forgive him for what he is saying.

"May God forgive you for all your sins and may God forgive you for all your lies about me and I forgive you," De Lima said during a Senate inquiry.

In his testimony before the Senate inquiry, Espinosa said he gave De Lima drug money through her former driver Ronnie Dayan. After this, Senator Panfilo Lacson said De Lima should be allowed to ask Espinosa questions regarding his affidavit.

The former justice secretary, however, said it would be "pointless, useless [and] futile" for her to do so since she is being implicated in the case and that anything she says or asks would be construed as biased.

"But let me say to my colleagues here and everyone in this hall and to everyone listening and watching this proceedings, I say this to you: I categorically firmly deny and absolutely deny having known Mr. Kerwin Espinosa," De Lima said.

She also said that any story about an alleged meeting between them would be a "total fabrication."

"I categorically firmly and absolutely denied having received any money any cash from Mr. Kerwin Espinosa either directly or indirectly through anyone else in any occasion at any time whether that money is supposedly for either protection or fundraising for campaign expenses," she added.

De Lima, however, said he gives her fellow senators "free hand" to ask anything about Espinosa's testimony.
