MANILA - Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding Chairman Nur Misuari will play a key role in efforts to end the decades-long Muslim rebellion in the south, President Rodrigo Duterte's peace adviser said Thursday.

Misuari expressed support for the peace process following a meeting with Duterte in Malacanang.

"Let's just see how things will roll out. He's one of the key players in our efforts for sustainable and comprehensive peace. Let's just wait," Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza said.

Misuari traveled to Manila from his lair on the remote southern island of Jolo after a local court suspended a warrant for his arrest over a bloody siege on Zamboanga City in 2013.

Dureza said certain conditions were set for Misuari's temporary freedom. These include asking the government for permission to travel abroad, providing authorities with monthly reports on his activities.

Misuari was also asked to go to the Philippine embassy whenever he is out of the country, Dureza said.

The MNLF leader may be leaving the country soon upon the invitation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dureza said.
