Anyone who catcalls, ogles, or bothers women in Baguio City may face a fine of up to P5,000 or spend up to six months in jail.

That is, if a proposed Baguio City ordinance protecting women in public places and streets, gets approved.

"Sa ating batas, hindi definite. Kaya we would like to make an ordinance...para maprotektahan ang ating mga kababaihan," said Councilor Joel Alangsab, who authored the ordinance.

The ordinance, known as "Safe Streets and Public Spaces Ordinance of Baguio City", provides penalties against unwanted comments, gestures, and actions forced on a person in a public space without their consent and directed at them because of their actual or perceived sex, gender, gender expression, or sexual orientation and identity.

Considered violations are unwanted comments, wolf-whistling, catcalling, and leering.

Also considered punishable offenses are slurs, persistent request for name and number, public masturbation, groping, stalking, and making sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and misogynistic acts.

The ordinance is scheduled for second reading.
