MANILA - Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Wednesday said it would be unreasonable to conduct a lifestyle check on his husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, if the basis would be the statements of Customs fixer Mark Taguba and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Carpio, as well as Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, were both mentioned by Taguba and Trillanes during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee's probe into the P6.4 billion shabu shipment that slipped past the Bureau of Customs.

In a leaked, unsigned draft of the committee report, the Blue Ribbon recommended a lifestyle check on Carpio and Duterte.

But Mayor Duterte said it would be premature to discuss a draft report, but if ever the recommendation finds its way to the final Blue Ribbon Committee report, it would still be pointless to follow it.

"If indeed the recommendation of a lifestyle check on Atty. Mans find its way into the FINAL committee report. My opinion is, it is an unreasonable recommendation mainly because it is based on 'chismis' of Mr. Taguba and from the 'lies' of Trillanes," she said.

President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter however welcomed the investigation of the Ombudsman into their family's wealth.

"I'd like to reiterate that I welcome the investigation by the Ombudsman since this will allow us to answer accusations and I also welcome a lifestyle check on my husband so that the issue is put to rest," said Mayor Duterte.
