MANILA - Senator Emmanuel Pacquiao on Wednesday defended his comments on a livestream of Arzaylea Rodriguez, a 22-year-old American social media sensation.

Pacquiao earned the ire of some social media users recently when his verified account was seen to have commented "Hello!" and "Where are you from?" on Rodriguez's Instagram livestream.

"Lahat naman pwedeng makipag-usap sa akin live. Wala namang malisya doon. In fact, iyun lang 'yun. Tingnan mo, pagkatapos nun, wala na," the boxing champion-turned-lawmaker told reporters.

Pacquiao explained that he only found the livestream by chance.

"Pag open ko ng Instagram ko, may nakita akong live. Pag panoorin mo iyung live niya, mag-appear ka, 'Manny Pacquiao has joined your live,'" he said.

"Sabi niya, 'Oh Manny Pacquiao, hello!' So nag-hello ako... Tinatanong niya ako nasa Pilipinas ka ba? Sabi ko andito ako, where are you from? Iyun lang."

Rodriguez is friends with Kylie Jenner, the youngest member of the celebrity Kardashian family. She had dated 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist and lead vocalist Luke Hemmings.
