The Quezon City (QC) government temporarily stopped a planned new traffic management scheme and re-routing plan that will affect parts of Barangay South Triangle.

The one-way scheme plan has been placed on hold until all road and drainage improvement projects have been completed, QC announced Wednesday.

The new plan was supposed to set a one-way traffic policy along the following areas in Barangay South Triangle:

- Panay Avenue, one way from EDSA to Timog Avenue

Meantime, Scout Borromeo and Samar Avenue are designated as two way roads.

The traffic scheme was supposed to take effect on September 15 but had to be put on hold indefinitely as the Department of Public Works and Highways has yet to give a date on when it would complete road construction projects in the area.

The new traffic plan was planned in June in a bid to decongest traffic along Quezon Avenue.

It was also meant to give way to the local government's plan to turn the area into a tourist destination by constructing a "big rotunda" with a "Hollywood-like Walk of Fame showcasing the country's two biggest television networks," Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety officer Dexter Cardenas said.

"The Department of Transportation, business owners and residents living in affected areas gave their nod to the plan that was initiated by the local government, in coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG)," Cardenas added.

The local government guaranteed that traffic advisories and signages will be installed within Barangay South Triangle to guide motorists as soon as the new traffic management scheme is implemented.
