'Maring' to make landfall over Aurora-Quezon area

Tropical Depression "Maring," which has started dumping heavy rains in Metro Manila, southern Luzon, and nearby provinces and cities, is expected to make landfall over the Quezon- Aurora area Tuesday afternoon, weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its latest advisory issued 5 a.m., PAGASA said Maring is bringing moderate to heavy rains over the Bicol region, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Pangasinan.

Residents of these areas are alerted against possible landslide and flashfloods.

An orange-level heavy rainfall warning was raised over Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, and Camarines Norte as of 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The alert level means that flooding is threatening low-lying areas.

A yellow-level rainfall warning was also raised over Quezon, Laguna, and Batangas.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 has been raised over the following areas:

Metro Manila
Catanduanes
Camarines Norte
Camarines Sur
Northern Quezon
Polillo Island
Rizal
Bulacan
Pampanga
Quirino
Nueva Ecija
Nueva Vizcaya
Benguet
La Union
Tarlac
Zambales
Bataan
Pangasinan
Laguna
Quirino
Aurora

The tropical cyclone is packing maximum winds of up to 55 kilometer per hour near the center and gusts of up to 65 kph.

Its center was last spotted 80 km north of Daet, Camarines Norte as 4 a.m. Tuesday.

It is moving west-northwest at 11 kph and is expected to be near Agno, Pangasinan by Wednesday morning.
