"We just have to trust God," said Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte after losing two of her triplets early in her pregnancy.

"I feel sad but everything happens for a reason. So we just have to trust God sa plano niya," she said in an ambush interview on Thursday.

The president's daughter said she was told by the doctors about the two deaths after a flag raising ceremony last Monday.

She said the doctors cannot say yet what caused the fetal deaths.

"Actually daghan siya [doctor] gisulti but they really cannot say what happened," she said.

Duterte said the two fetuses will not be extracted from her womb yet because this might affect the surviving baby.

"Dili because naa pa isa e. So dili nila puwede tandugun because maaapektuhan ang isa. So pasagdan lang sila," she said.

Despite what happened, the mayor said she still needs to work. But she will be taking it easy on physical activities as the doctor advised.

"I need to work. So I'm taking it easy sa physical activities. But merong (advise) to take precautions," she said.

She said her next check-up will be next week.

"Gisulti sa doctor, take it easy. Ang mga tambal regularly, take medicine so daghan kaayo 'to," she added.

Duterte said she had not yet informed her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, about the fetal deaths before her public announcement.

The President is currently attending the ASEAN Summit in Laos.
