MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday met the parents of slain teen Carl Angelo Arnaiz, who was killed in a shootout allegedly after robbing a taxi driver on August 17.

The meeting in Malacañang Palace came a day after the placement of Carlito and Eva under provisional coverage of the Witness Protection Program.

police spot report said Arnaiz attempted to rob a taxi driver along C-3 Road last August 18, but was shot dead by arresting officers. Marijuana leaves were reportedly recovered from the teenager.

Autopsy findings suggested the boy may have been tortured, contrary to police's claim that he was killed in a shootout with lawmen.

Reynaldo de Guzman, Arnaiz's 14-year-old companion, was meanwhile found dead in Nueva Ecija on Wednesday.

The Arnaiz case made headlines after police fended off allegations of irregularity in another Caloocan raid that killed another teenager, Kian Delos Santos.

National Capital Region Police Director Oscar Albayalde said the officers involved in the incident have been relieved from their posts and placed under restrictive custody.
