NAGA CITY - Vice President Leni Robredo has advised President Rodrigo Duterte to just continue his job, as they were both duly elected to serve until 2022.

Robredo made the call following Duterte's statement that he was willing to step down, if the likes of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. led the country.

"Kasi kaming dalawa hinalal until 2022, obligasyon namin pareho na gawin yung lahat ng aming makakaya para sa bayan, kasi 'yun yung mandato sa amin. Kaysa mag-aksaya ng panahon ng hindi naman mga totoo yung mga sinasabi, magtrabaho na lang kami pareho,” Robredo told reporters.

(We were both elected and are mandated to serve until 2022. It is our obligation to do our best for the country, because that's our mandate. So instead of wasting time saying untruthful statements, we might as well work.)

Earlier this week, Duterte said Robredo does not have what it takes to be president and he would rather be replaced by former Senator Ferdinand "Bong-Bong" Marcos Jr., or Senator Francis Escudero, 2 vice-presidential candidates who lost to Robredo during the 2016 elections.

"Ang daming problema ng bansa, asikasuhin na lang 'yung problema ng bansa kaysa pulitika parati," Robredo said.

(The country has a lot of problems so we should just tend to those problems instead of prioritizing politics.)

Marcos is contesting Robredo's win and has asked the Presidential Electoral Tribunal to invalidate Robredo’s poll victory in 2016. The Liberal Party bet beat the former senator by 263,473 votes.

Marcos Jr. claims the automated polls were rigged by Robredo’s Liberal Party, then the administration party.

But Robredo’s camp has dismissed Marcos’ allegations and asked him to accept defeat.

Duterte however said that he may consider resigning should Marcos win his electoral protest against Robredo.

In previous events, Duterte said he was indebted to the Marcos family as Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos was among the few politicians who supported his presidential bid in 2016.

The vice president's camp maintained that they are unfazed by the Duterte's negative remarks against Robredo.

"In so far as we are concerned, President Duterte’s resignation will never happen because Mr. Marcos will never win his electoral protest,"
