MANILA - A lawmaker who served as former President and current House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's budget secretary was named new House majority leader on Monday.

Camarines Sur 1st District Rep. Rolando Andaya Jr. replaced Ilocos Norte Rep. Rodolfo Fariñas.

While the majority has elected a new leader, various blocs at the House of Representatives are still debating on who will lead the minority.

Quezon Rep. Danilo Suarez said he wants to remain minority leader after hearing that ousted House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is fielding Fariñas as minority leader.

Members of the Liberal Party and Makabayan bloc at the House of Representatives, meanwhile, joined forces and insisted that they are the real minority.

In a letter to Arroyo, these lawmakers said they have elected Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo as minority leader, adding that they accepted new members to the bloc.

Meanwhile, aside from Rep. Andaya, Arroyo's former top security aide, former Presidential Security Group head Romeo Prestoza, was also named new sergeant-at-arms of the House of Representatives.--report from RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
