MANILA - US Ambassador Philip Goldberg on Thursday shared what he loves about the Philippines even as he prepares to finish his term before the end of the year.

Speaking on ANC’s “Headstart” on Thursday, Goldberg praised the natural beauty of the Philippines but added it is the people that made him fall in love with the country.

"There are beautiful beaches. I love going to Baguio and the mountains. I’ve been all the way from Ilocos Norte down to Tawi-Tawi. I’ve loved all of that. But it’s the people,” he said.

“The people are so warm and welcoming and friendly and I mention their attitudes, which are very favorable about Americans, the connections to the US, the basketball, the friendships that we have. That’s the best part,” he added.

Goldberg likewise shared what he would suggest to his American friends if they would come over.

"If you had the money, maybe El Nido or Amanpulo. I love though a more reasonable cost, for those of us who aren’t multimillionaires, the Bohol beaches. I love Bohol. It’s quite charming."

As for his favorite food, he said: “When I have it, it’s usually Filipino fusion or some kind. Puwede chicken adobo and lumpia.”

Goldberg will officially leave his post as the US Ambassador to the Philippines in October. He, however, refused to disclose where he will be assigned next.
