Pagiging 'bansot' ng bata, paano maiiwasan?

Halos apat na milyon na ang naitatalang 'bansot' na bata dahil sa hindi pagkain nang tama.

Base sa datos ng Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) noong 2015, nasa 3.8 milyon na mga preschoolers o batang edad lima pababa ang may 'stunted growth' o bansot. Nasa higit 800,000 naman ang underweight na mga bata o kulang sa timbang.

Samantala, overweight o obese naman ang nasa 18 milyon matatanda o edad 19 pataas.

Dahil dito, isinusulong ng National Nutrition Council (NNC) at Department of Health na ugaliing kumain nang balanse.

Maaaring sundan ang "Pinggang Pinoy", kung saan ipinapakita ang dami o porsiyento ng dapat kaining gulay, kanin, karne o isda at prutas.

Dagdag pa ng NNC, may iba pang ginagawa ang gobyerno para masolusyunan ito, base sa Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022.

Pero kailangan pa rin anila ng tulong lalo na ng mga magulang, na siyang kasama at nagpapakain sa mga bata sa bahay.

"One activity under nutrition specific is supplementary feeding programs in poor barangays. We are advocating from DA to provide for environment in our focus priority provinces to provide seedlings for distribution," ayon kay Dr. Azucena Dayanghirang, deputy executive director ng NNC.

Base naman sa tala ng World Health Organization, nasa 1.7 milyon ang namamatay dahil sa gastrointestinal cancer, heart disease, at stroke. Isa sa mga itinuturong sanhi nito ang di sapat na pagkain ng mga prutas at gulay.
