PALAWAN - The San Vicente Airport was officially opened to light aircraft on Thursday, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announced.

Commercial flights to and from San Vicente Airport are expected to begin by the end of the year.

“Philippine Airlines (PAL) is already moving their equipment papunta ng San Vicente Airport earlier today, and in the past weeks, palaging pumupunta dito ang PAL because of their huge interest,” said James Paul Inawasan, municipal administrator of San Vicente.

Airport construction started in 2009, and now that it is already operational, the local government foresees an influx of tourists and investors.

Once commercial flights begin in San Vicente Airport, tourists do not have to go to San Vicente via a 3-hour land travel from Puerto Princesa City, making the town's popular tourist destinations such as Long Beach more accessible.
