'Laboracay', nagdulot ng higit 10,000 kilo ng basura

BORACAY—Higit 10,000 kilo ng basura ang nakolekta sa isla ng Boracay matapos ang Labor Day weekend.

Mula Abril 30 hanggang Mayo 1, 10.06 metric tons ang basura na nakolekta ng mga miyembro ng Cause for a New Coast, isang grupo ng mga volunteers na layong linisin ang White Beach, Boracay.

Ito ay katumbas ng 200 sako ng bigas at mas mataas kumpara sa nakaraang dalawang taon.

“This is their third year to collect trash and every year we find creative ways on how to encourage residents and tourists to participate and clean up Boracay,” ani Alden Cedo, project head ng Cause for a New Coast.

Tumanggap ng 67,000 turista ang Boracay noong Labor Day Weekend o “Laboracay” na mula Abril 29 hanggang 30.

Lumahok din ang mga artista sa “Save Sexy” Campaign, kung saan may libreng testing at counseling para sa human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Ito ay handog ng The Red Whistle, isang HIV advocacy group.

“I hope itong ginagawa namin will be passed on to the next generation,” ani Bea Rose Santiago, Miss International 2013.

Nais ng grupo na magbigay ng tamang impormasyon HIV upang masugpo ito sa bansa.
